As it was my first time attending for many years, I was surprised to see the level of effort and commitment applied to all the festival goers, as well as the volume of people attending.
Whitby Goth Weekend was founded in 1994 by Jo Hampshire. It began with 40 pen pals, sharing interests at a pub in Whitby. Today the festival is one of the world's leading goth events, that features live music and over 100 stalls of the Bizarre Bazaar Alternative Market.
We had the honour of discovering Obotan Mmienu, who is an artist from the London area, he creates beautiful bespoke Jewellery, clocks, printed tees and trinkets, all at affordable prices. https://shop.obotan-mmienu.com/

Our main efforts for this flying visit, was to get the word of Purged out there. To no surprise, everybody we had the privilege of speaking with at the festival, were all so welcoming and a pleasure to speak to. Goth subculture is one of the most accepting, unique and loving communities, and one of the reasons why it is always growing. With the next Whitby Goth weekend happening between the 27th-29th October, later this year, we hope to see you there!
